Family Traditions and Brithdays

How do you deal with birthdays in your family?

In Brazil in my growing up years birthdays was the most important date in a child's life, as soon as you finished your party (if you had one) you would be counting the months for the next one.

Since I have had children I notice that this isn't something that only "brazilian" children do, but all children, at least in our house it is like that, I hear about birthdays all year around, and I happen to have about 5 people having birthday  very close together, right near Christmas and new year,

Not always easy to follow traditions when you are so busy... You see, my house has been in a state of calamity ever since my last baby was born, which was exactly 1 year ago,for the past 6 weeks I have had my mind on my health issues, while trying to get organized so I could make Kimberly her first cake,! I am so glad that this is her first birthday, she wont remember that I almost broke a tradition because of time.

So yesterday I only started baking at around 7pm... can you believe it? we were singing happy birthday at 9pm way past everyone's bed time. But it was nice, I am glad I've done it, no tradition broken there.

I think it is so nice to have little family traditions,  we like giving our children breakfast in bed on their birthday, we have been doing this for years, now they usually order the night before every thing they want to have for breakfast. ~It is nice to see them looking forward to a cup of hot chocolate or something simple like that, I think it is more the fact that it is something especially for that particular child and that makes them feel special.

Do you have family traditions?

Here are some of the Kinsella house hold tradition:

1. We have all our meals together. or at least try to have Dinner together, certains days a week Dave is working out of the home so we will have breakfast and dinner together. We started this since we got married that it is so normal, unless every one is around the table no one starts eating. :)

2.We usually put the children to bed about 3 hours before we go to bed, we like having the evening to watch a movie, talk, work online, or just chill out in a quiet place! :)

3.It doesn't happen every night, but when I put the baby to bed, I sing in Portuguese to the children while they are in bed on the dark. or I tell a made up story. They LOVE it! and get very up set when I say I wont be doing any of the two.

4. The children usually wake us up, way before we would like to be up! It is weird has become a little  tradition where we wait for them to come to our bed, except on sunday, because sundays I need to be up first.

5.Had to come just after the last, we usually are late for church!!!  Horrible tradition I know, we are working on that one... pray for us!!! it shouldn't be a tradition. :)

6.We like to pray before our meals, every day, 3 times a day.

7. On our anniversary or Valentines day The children make home made cards and make breakfast in bed for us.

These  are few of our traditions, I know some are not really traditions but they are good info about us.

Yesterday Kimberly was 1 year old, tomorrow we will be 11 years married, Christmas eve Amy is 10 years old, on the 29th Dave is 32,... then January another 2 children... tell you, my baking skills is improving a lot since I have become a mam!

I was almost forgetting, I was in hospital again this week and my hormones where way down and we were quite please with that, things happened naturally and I will not need medication. Thanks be to God!

Love you all, Talk soon!
Ps: I will post some photos of the baby tomorrow!
